Prayers
go out to friends tonight
to all the suffering people
so much pain in the world
When will we learn?
After it gets much worse it seems
We should
have stayed spread out
as mushrooms who grew in the dark
as monkeys in trees
as grey aliens
Never to have met
"It worked for a while" he said with a smile
an experiment gone awry
I imagine
disembodied souls
a thousand miles out
comparing notes frantically
Waiting for the next migration
In dreams
I must see the end
I've got a good thing going with my brain
It doesn't have to explain the rain
It lets me forget and like Carlin and yet
Holed up in a lifeboat in which one has
learned ties to sever and set adrift
soon on lonely roads without a lift
I know
it will not last forever
And
so without ending it there I would say
Remember you only have to think of today
though your brain tries to pull forward and back
and every which way
there is only the now
there is only the now
there is only the now
and all else is hay
