Part 1 of 2. This program was broadcast live on KPFA at 12am on 4/24/10 in Berkeley, California on the Negativland show 'Over the Edge'. The original cut was 3 hours, but the performance has been adapted for Needle in the Red by Phineas Narco, and edited down to fit on two cd-r's (about 160 min. total) in two parts. Some post-production work and editing has been done on this show but almost all of what you hear is as it came out at the time. Participants were Phineas Narco of National Cynical Network, Wobbly, TradeMark G of ECC (Evolution Control Committee) and Don Joyce of Negativland. Sources were much and various from The Beatles and material related to The Beatles. This project is based on The Beatlerape album by Big City Orchestra. The first section of this show (about 30 minutes in this edit) is the same set we did at the Big City Orchestra 30th Anniversary Show at Cafe DuNord earlier in 2010.

Mashups and versions of The Beatles' music is almost a genre unto itself, and this mix is a collection of some of our faves from that body of collective work. This is the first of 3 programs chronicling some interesting Beatles 'variations': mostly mashups, some covers, parodies, and audio experiments all put together in one continuous stream-of-consciousness mix by NCN. Includes excerpts of works by the Fab Four, as well as re-constructions and pieces by Hank Handey, Go Home Productions, DJ BC, DJ Tripp, Beatallica, Sol Messiah, NCN, Cracked Pepper, 'Hippocamp Ruins Sgt. Pepper', Unscrew, The Evolution Control Committee, Phineas Narco, DJ Aristocat, Bjork, Little Roger and The Goosebumps and others. This is an uncut NSFW and probably not safe for terrestrial radio, please review before broadcasting. 79 min. long, 128kbps.

A companion collage program to 'Money is a State of Mind' (Needle in the Red 38), this program is an exploration into the fate of money and whether it's value has already peaked for the last time and what it means if it has. An audio snapshot in time of the state of money now, and in the future, in a world where everyone is in debt to everyone else, and no one can afford to pay. Will the dollar collapse? Will a new dollar take it's place? Isn't our national economy almost always in crisis? What lessons can we learn from the collapse of other economies? Is socialism the answer? Does Money Make the World Go Around? Just what IS our money worth, after all? And what will we do when it's worth less? or even... worthless? NONE of these questions will be answered in this program, which is in one 79 min. Director's Cut program. 128kbps 79 min.

This is Episode 54 of Needle in the Red titled 'The Joy of Nothing', a 3 hour program exploring being and nothingness, and everything in between. Sources for the entire collage program include Dead Can Dance, NIN, Ivan Stang of the Church of the Subgenius, Midnight Voicejail by NCN featuring Ronald Redball and Alexander T. Newport, Massive Attack, Dr. Laura, Kate Bush, TOOL, Current 93, Jack Canfield, Coldplay, Dr. Quantum, Rush Limbaugh, KMFDM, lots of material on the hadron collider, Tom Petty, Warbear's piece from Emoporn, Alice in Chains Unplugged, Eckhart Tolle, The Orb, Wayne Dyer, Abraham Hicks, The Dalai Lama, The Beastie Boys, George Carlin, Eric Bogosian, Ray Charles, Donovan, The Evolution Control Committee, Bob Rivers, The Normal, NoSound, mashups by NCN DJ Matt Hite, Nemozob and Party Ben! . The implied 'subtext' of this program: NervousMan starts out 'in the hole' brooding morbidly about 'nothing'. His thoughts slip into ethereal new age musings of non-duality. This makes him feel better, for a while, but his higher vibration cannot be sustained. This whole and blissful state collapses into the hollow void of its own cynical duality. These daydreams and moodswings wear NervousMan out. He finds he is back to square one, but now pondering his own cynicism's effect on the world at large. Looking up, he appreciates the sunshine on his face, making him feel inspired. Eventually, the sun sets, and NervousMan falls asleep, dreaming sweet and peaceful dreams.
